Engagement Ring FAQs
All You Need To Know
-
While we can’t talk for everyone, we can just give you an idea of what an engagement ring will cost with us. We specialise in custom made jewellery, so our pricing is reflective of the whole process; special procurement of materials, custom designing (with edits) and hand making to order.
The starting price for a handmade ring is from $4,000 in 14ct gold. This includes our full design process, metal and the labour required to make a simple, solitaire engagement ring. The cost of any stone/s is additional.
Our process is not mass producing the same ring hundreds of times which would reduce the cost of a ring so it’s worth knowing this if you’re comparing costs, remember - apples to apples.
We are also very happy to discuss the option of casting a ring or components of it, and in some cases this can be the preferred method depending on budget or the design of the piece. Please reach out if you have any questions and we are always happy to chat with you about the differences and our recommendations.

Yes, the price of precious metals is constantly changing and generally trending upwards.
The chosen design will determine the weight required and the global market will determine the price per gram for the selected precious metal.
-
Diamond prices are largely dictated by the 4C's; Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat. Each 'C' influences the price along with fluorescence and the origin of the stone.
Precious gems also vary greatly in price depending on size, colour, clarity, quality of cut and/or treatment (heat, irradiation etc) applied.
Because there is such a vast difference in pricing for diamonds and gems we can use your preferences to offer a selection of stones to choose from within your budget.
-
A solid or heavy design will weigh more than a delicate design and will consequently cost more due to the extra metal required.
A very detailed and intricate design with multiple gems will require more labour than a classic, simple solitaire.
Both Jenna and Megan each have over 20 years of experience designing jewellery so we have a wealth of knowledge available to recommend the perfect solution within your budget.

We work with recycled gold (14K, 18K, yellow, rose and white) and platinum and recommend these higher carat/purity metals for the use in engagement rings due to their better wearing characteristics.
-
Due to the softer characteristics of these metals we don't recommend them for engagement rings. This is to ensure longevity of the piece as engagement rings are intended to be worn every day. If your preference is for one of these metals we may be able to recommend a suitable design depending on your stone choice.

Aside from time spent consulting with you on design and the sourcing of materials there is the physical labour required to bring the piece to life!
The most simple solitaire engagement ring requires roughly eight hours of physical labour.
The more intricate the design, the more stones included and the more features such as texture and/or engraving, the more labour involved.

We need to allow between 2-6 weeks for the design phase. In this time we will be sourcing specific stones for you, drawing up concepts & quoting on your different options. This is the time to perfect your design.
-
Once we have completed the design phase (as detailed above) we can begin making your ring. Manufacture takes 6-8 weeks. So in all it can vary from 8-14 weeks, give or take.
