Working With Your Stones
Prior to committing to using any gems and/or diamonds provided by you for a remodel project, Webb + Steele needs you to be aware of the following:
Not all stones are suitable for everyday wear. Rings in particular get knocked around a lot and the stones used need to be carefully considered. If you are unsure exactly what type of stone you are providing we can arrange to have it tested. In some cases, even if a stone comes with certification, we may undergo testing for confirmation. In some cases this may incur additional fees that we would quote on before proceeding.
We cannot insure a customer supplied stone. When working with a stone that you are supplying we need you to be aware that all stones (natural and created, diamonds and coloured gems) contain impurities and imperfections as part of their formation. For any stone to be set into a piece of jewellery the metal is hammered over the edges of the stone to hold it in place. This puts pressure on the stone, and though rare, stones can chip, scratch and break. When we supply a stone we accept full responsibility over the risk of such damages occurring. When working with a stone supplied by you, although we work with 100% care and professionalism, we can not insure it against any damage that may occur due to the nature of the stone itself.
If a stone you have supplied is damaged in any way during the setting process we will notify you immediately and assist with either having the stone re-cut or replaced. This will be quoted individually.
We may recommend having a stone re-cut or re-polished if the stone you are supplying has been worn previously and is damaged in any way. This is to ensure the best result in the completed piece of jewellery as even minor chips and scratches can affect the overall appearance of the stone. All costs associated with having a stone re-cut will be quoted individually.
